Does Muay Thai Have Belts?

Muay Thai, unlike many other martial arts, does not typically use a belt ranking system. Muay Thai, which originated in Thailand, has its own unique traditions and training methods, and historically, it has not included a formalized belt or ranking system like those found in disciplines such as Karate, Judo, or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
In traditional Muay Thai training, progress and skill levels are often recognized through increased responsibilities in the gym, such as leading training sessions, or through achievements in competitions. Fighters are usually judged based on their fighting record, experience, and skill level demonstrated in the ring, rather than a belt rank.
However, it's worth noting that some modern Muay Thai schools, especially those outside of Thailand, have adopted a belt or armband system. This is often done to help structure training programs, particularly in the Western world where students are accustomed to a progression system. These ranking systems can vary widely from school to school and are not standardized.
In summary, while traditional Muay Thai does not have a belt system, some contemporary schools have implemented their own ranking systems for various reasons, but these are not universally recognized across all Muay Thai gyms.
